Can one number compose a drawing?

A DRAWING, ONE MARK AT A TIME

HOW A DRAWING IS MADE

A short breakdown of this pen pass. The original SVG commands are available separately.

φ = (1 + √5)/2 = 1.6180339887 Golden angle = π(3 − √5) = 2.399963 radians ≈ 137.508°

Why the pen goes over a line again

The artist-like finish comes from drawing the same path more than once, with small changes in position, thickness and ink strength.

From the page to the exhibition

In the virtual exhibition, some portrait drawings become sculptures: their marks are traced into solid shapes and placed on plinths. Portraits that aren't made into sculptures hang on the walls as paintings, alongside the landscape works.

Each day's rooms are planned from that day's date and drawings, so the exhibitions grow and change.

For the thinking behind the project, read About This Project. You can also make a drawing of your own.

The drawings come from the code itself. See the PROPORTION PIECE source repository for the rules behind them.
